Handloom deptt organises capacity building for artisans in Budgam

Budgam, Oct 23: Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom conducted capacity building programme for the Kashmiri Carpet weavers of Budgam district at Shunglipora.
The programme was attended by the artisans who recently made the carpets for the new parliament building.
The awareness session regarding marketing, packaging, e-Commerce and direct selling and quality improvement was presented to the artisans in detail by Dr Altaf Ahamd –Assistant Professor Department of Management Studies IUST University Awantipora.
Ghulam Nabi from MEERAS owners of GI tag of Carpet gave detailed presentation about importance and benefits of GI tagged Carpets.
Bilal Ahamd Kawoosa, Chairman Carpet Cluster Development Organization acquainted and interacted with artisans about various government schemes for cluster formation.
The other trainers who interacted with artisans include Iqbal Fayaz Jan Deputy Director PHDCCI-J&K, Smt Khalida Rifat, Handicrafts Training officer (HTO) Beerwah, Tasaduq Hussain, Assistant Handicrafts Training officer (AHTO), Syed Bilal Bukhari, Junior Craft instructor (JCI), Mohd Ashraf (SCI)
The artisans were told to visit Indian Institute of Carpet Technology and MEERAS and Carpet Cluster development Organization for Design and quality development and raw material support.
The artisans were told to form society and get all benefits from All India Handloom Department.
While applauding the role of the Handicraft Department and PHDCCI for arranging first time such an awareness workshop, the Artisans of Carpet from Budgam said that they have gained and enriched a lot through the two-day program and will adopt the techniques learnt in the packaging, designing quality improvement of their products.
They demanded that such kind of programmes should be arranged at least once in a month.
