ARVIND SHARMA
Jammu, June 3: Amid prevailing heat wave conditions in Jammu, high velocity winds late afternoon on Monday wreaked havoc across the city, causing extensive damage to the power infrastructure and resulting in widespread power outages.
The gusty winds, which struck around 5:30 PM, inflicted heavy damages to the power infrastructure, leading to power blackouts in numerous areas of Jammu. Regions like Bari Brahmana, Bishnah, TalabTillo, Muthi, Saink Colony, Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Bakshi Nagar, Rajpura, Shakti Nagar, Bhagwati Nagar, Gangyal, Digiana, Triukta Nagar, Jewel, Palorua, and several adjoining areas faced electricity disruptions as a result of the severe damage caused.
“We are currently assessing the extent of damages to the power infrastructure due to the high velocity winds across Jammu,” stated Superintendent Engineer Karam Chand. “Restoration efforts are underway, and we anticipate that power will be restored in many areas by tonight.”
Despite ongoing restoration efforts, power remained elusive in most parts of Jammu, with many areas still experiencing blackout well into the night.
The impact of the high velocity winds was evident with uprooted trees, damaged electric poles, and snapped power supply wires observed across various areas in Jammu. The severity of the damage underscored the challenges faced in swiftly restoring power supply to affected regions.
As of the latest update, power had been partially restored in some areas of Jammu, while efforts continued to bring electricity back to the remaining areas still grappling with the blackout.
