Srinagar, June 11: Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar is delighted to announce the successful conclusion of an enlightening educational program focused on prevalence and management of obesity in our region. Held on Tuesday, this program marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to empower the next generation of medical professionals.

Under the expert guidance of Prof (Dr) Iqbal Saleem Mir, Head of the Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery, GMC Srinagar, the program brought together distinguished experts in their respective fields for a day of insightful discussions, engaging presentations, and collaborative learning experiences. The speakers included Dr Insha Rauf (consultant psychiatrist), Dr Mohammad Hayat Bhat (Head, Endocrinology), Prof (Dr) Naveed Nazir Shah (Head, pulmonology), Prof (Dr) Hina Bashir (Head, Anaesthesiology & critical care) and Dr Arshad Rashid (Associate professor, Surgery). The audience was enthralled by the brilliant presentations of these experts. To add to the flavour, Dr Arun Prasad (Director Robotic Surgery, Indraprastha Apollo, New Delhi) joined this educational event virtually. This educational activity was held as part of the Laparoscopic skill advancement program (LAPSAP) – a flagship educational initiative of the postgraduate department of surgery, GMC Srinagar.

Through interactive sessions, participants gained practical insights into diagnosis, treatment modalities, and surgical techniques, preparing them for the realities of clinical practice. The audience was amazed by the expert opinions of senior faculty from SKIMS Soura, SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, GMC Baramulla; besides senior faculty from various departments of GMC Srinagar. Principal/ Dean GMC Srinagar Prof (Dr) Iffat Hassan Shah while welcoming the participants congratulated the department of surgery for this initiative and expressed the desire that such activities should become a norm in the future. The success of this program underscores the dedication and commitment of the academic community at GMC Srinagar to nurturing excellence in medical education and healthcare delivery. This update on Bariatric surgery was organised by Prof (Dr) Shakeel Ahmad Mir (Department of Surgery, GMC Srinagar).

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants, faculty members, and stakeholders who contributed to the success of this program. Together, we have taken a significant step forward in advancing medical knowledge, fostering professional development, and improving patient outcomes in our community.
