Sonamarg, Aug 25: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal, on Monday hailed the local pony association, traders and all stakeholders associated with the tourism sector in Sonamarg for their contribution in ensuring the smooth and peaceful conclusion of this year’s Amarnath Yatra.Speaking to reporters after attending a Thana Diwas programme at JKTDC Sonamarg, SSP Poswal said, “The successful conduct of Amarnath Yatra would not have been possible without the cooperation of the pony association, hoteliers, traders, transporters and all others linked with the tourism sector. Everyone played a great role during the yatra, and I am here to thank them on behalf of the police administration.”Earlier, with the objective of strengthening community engagement and addressing public concerns, Ganderbal Police organised Thana Diwas at JKTDC Sonamarg under the chairmanship of SSP Poswal. The event was attended by senior police officers including SHO Reyaz Ahmad, respectable citizens, Auqaf Committee members, Numberdars, Chowkidars, teachers, traders, and other stakeholders. During the session, participants put forth their grievances and suggestions, which SSP Poswal heard attentively. He assured the gathering that police-related issues would be resolved promptly, while matters pertaining to civil administration would be taken up with the concerned departments for early redressal. Reiterating Ganderbal Police’s “zero tolerance” policy towards drugs, he urged people to come forward with information about drug-related activities in their areas and assured strict action against offenders. He also appealed to the community to extend cooperation in maintaining peace and law and order, besides identifying anti-social and anti-national elements. Participants expressed gratitude to Ganderbal Police for holding the interactive session, which they said helps in fostering trust and cooperation between the police and the public. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from both sides.
