Jammu, July 13: Provincial President of the J&K National Conference, Adv Rattan Lal Gupta on Saturday claimed that the youth of Jammu & Kashmir have been demoralised by rampant unemployment, leaving their future in limbo under the current dispensation.
Gupta made these remarks while addressing a meeting of the Youth Wing of the National Conference (NC) at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu. The meeting was convened by Tejinder Pal Singh, District President of JKYNC Jammu Urban, with Gupta as the Chief Guest.
Tejinder Pal Singh highlighted the challenges faced by the youth due to the anti-youth policies adopted by the ruling government at the Centre and in J&K. He said that unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir is at its peak. “Over the past decade, the youth have faced numerous issues, including recruitment scams, a rise in drug peddling, and ad-hocism in government departments,” he said.
Addressing the party workers, Rattan Lal criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regime for leaving the youth of Jammu and Kashmir in despair due to rampant unemployment. He accused the government of failing to provide adequate employment opportunities and neglecting the needs and aspirations of the young population. “There is an alarming number of vacant posts across various government departments and the administration failed to generate jobs, which has led to increased joblessness,” he said.
The NC further said the youth have been severely affected by multiple recruitment scams under the current administration. The cancellation of FAA, fire emergency services, SI exams, and several other recruitment exams has created uncertainty about the future. “The LG government has failed to ensure fair, transparent and timely exams and recruitment processes, which has led to a bleak future for the youth,” he said.
Provincial Secretaries Sheikh Bashir Ahmed and Pardeep Bali said the government has failed to raise two Border Battalions and neglected locals in power projects, which has severely affected the unemployed youth of the Jammu region. “Despite signing MoUs worth over Rs 85,000 crores, there have been no tangible results on the ground. This has exacerbated the problems faced by the youth,” they said. They questioned the government on the future of the youth in Jammu and Kashmir if recruitment and regularisation continue to be mismanaged.
Vijay Lochan, Chairman SC Cell, and Rakesh Singh Raka, Vice President Central Zone, called on the people of Jammu and Kashmir to support Dr Farooq Abdullah-led National Conference in the upcoming assembly elections for a brighter future for their children.
District President Jammu Urban YNC Tejinder Singh urged the youth brigade of the party to stay visible in the public eye and inform the youth of J&K about the “misdeeds” of the current administration. “It is important to respond to the BJP’s anti-people and anti-youth actions by supporting the National Conference in the upcoming political battle in J&K,” he said.
