While speaking with Rising Kashmir, Salim said ,” My journey began in 2014 when I joined the Universal Football Academy (UFA) in my locality. Under the guidance of my first coach, Lateef Ahmed Bhat, who held an AFC C license, I underwent three years of intensive training.
My father enrolled me in UFA, and it was the starting point of my football career. Coach Lateef Ahmed Bhat played a crucial role in shaping my skills during those initial years.”
“My coach sent me for a trial with a professional club, Lonestar Football Club Kashmir, where I was playing Under-13. However, I got selected during the Under-16 trials. After some time, I moved to Chandigarh with my family to stay with my cousin. Later, I saw in the news that Minerva Punjab FC, the best academy in North India, was conducting trials. My father took me there for the trial, and I got selected. I spent two years there, playing in the I-League from Under-13 to Under-15. Minerva FC was India’s No.1 football academy”, Salim Mir said.
Adding, “After that, one of the coaches there contacted me and informed me about the trials in Kolkata for ATK Mohan Bagan. When I spoke to my father, he was very happy as it was one of the top 10 teams in Asia. Every Indian football player dreams of playing for that club. When I went for the trial, I scored a hat-trick from outside the 18-yard box.”
Salim said that representing ATK Mohan Bagan was a dream come true while the experience of playing in Kolkata and then contributing to Real Kashmir FC was a defining chapter in his career.

Adding, “Playing under the mentorship of Mr. Wadoo and Mr. Ishfaq has been invaluable. Their experience and guidance have played a crucial role in my development as a player.”
“I have faced numerous struggles in my life, particularly dealing with taunts and discouragement from people. They would say if we leave you alone in a race, you’ll still come second and used to laugh. I turned those taunts into my strength. Today, those who teased me are eager to have me play for their teams. It’s a testament to the power of perseverance and hard work”, Salim said.
He emphasizes the importance of maintaining a positive mindset, especially during tough times. “My family and friends have been my pillars of strength. Their support has fueled my determination to overcome challenges and pursue my dreams”, he said.
Salim believes that whatever one does in their life , it should be done with sincerity.
“Always remember, if you believe you are doing the right thing, don’t worry about society’s opinions, as they always have something negative to say. If you entertain negative thoughts, they can lead to your downfall, so follow your passion and trust yourself”, he said.
Adding, “My dream is to represent my national team and play in the Indian Super League. Currently, I am playing for a second division league team, and, God willing, I will debut in the Indian Super League in the coming years.
