Srinagar, July 14: The President of India on Monday appointed senior BJP leader and former Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta as the new Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
Gupta, a veteran political figure, who earlier served as Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and later as Deputy Chief Minister during the PDP-BJP coalition government in 2018.
The appointment comes following the resignation of Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.), who served as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. The President has formally accepted his resignation.
In the same communiqué, Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh was appointed as the Governor of Haryana, while Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju was named as the Governor of Goa.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan said all appointments will take effect from the dates the new appointees assume charge of their respective offices.
