Srinagar, Dec 11: Security forces on Wednesday detected and destroyed a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) through a controlled explosion in the Langate area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Army spokesman said that they have recovered IED in Langate area of Kupwara on Baramulla-Handwara Road.

“Army and Police averted a major terror incident today by recovering and destroying an IED at Langate, Kupwara,” he said, adding that the Army remains resolute in its commitment to keep Kashmir terror-free.

Meanwhile following the detection of IED, traffic was suspended on the highway. Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was called in to inspect the device.

Later the IED was destroyed through a controlled explosion, without causing any damage. After that traffic movement was restored,” he said.

Pertinent to mention here, on Tuesday morning, another IED was defused by the police and security forces in the Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

A top security official told Rising Kashmir that planting IEDs along roadsides, buildings and other locations has become a new challenge and somehow, they have succeeded in diffusing them.

“It is still a challenge and we are working on a strategy to avert these incidents in future and our bomb squads are well trained to diffuse them within a short period of time,” he added.

The official said foreign terrorists are mostly trained for making IED’s and after finding a safer hiding place, OWG’s are being used to assemble explosives.

“From the past three years, the trends of planting IEDs have decreased. In 2024 year alone 8 IEDs have been recovered,” he said.
