Jammu, Aug 28: Over 25% of the Jammu Division continues to experience power outages for more than three days following unprecedented rainfall that caused severe damage to the region’s power infrastructure.“Many main transmission lines have been damaged, and numerous power stations across Jammu are submerged or have sustained damage due to flash floods and water accumulation,” Chief Engineer, Power Development Department (PDD), KK Thappa told Rising Kashmir.Widespread destruction has led to hundreds of electric poles being either washed away or damaged, severely hampering power restoration efforts across Jammu. The impact is especially severe in Kishtwar and parts of Pir Panchal, where residents are grappling with both a power crisis and water shortage. “Approximately 25% of the Jammu region remains without power, and our teams are working tirelessly to restore electricity to these areas,” Thappa said. The region experienced extensive damage to its power infrastructure due to the heavy rainfall, resulting in thousands of poles and distribution transformers being damaged. Several power stations were also affected, disrupting supply to the majority of areas.Out of 1,349 power feeders in Jammu, 1,049 have been damaged or rendered inoperable due to the floods. “We are actively working to restore power by installing new poles and repairing damaged feeders,” the CE PDD said. “We hope to restore power to the remaining affected areas within a day or two.”
