Ganderbal, Feb 09: Jammu and Kashmir Police Friday claimed that they have busted a fake currency racket in area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district
An official said that Kangan Police Station received crucial intel from reliable sources about suspicious activity in Kijpara, situated behind the dumping park.
Acting swiftly upon this information, a special police team, under the direction of SSP Ganderbal Sandeep Gupta-IPS, was formed, led by SDPO Kangan Muzaffar Jan-JKPS and supervised by SHO Kangan Turk Zahoor.
During the investigation police raided the identified location, apprehending 12 individuals who were found engaging in suspicious movement.
Upon searching the suspects and the vehicles associated with the alleged criminal activity, law enforcement uncovered and seized a substantial cache of counterfeit currency. The haul included 30 bundles of Rs 50,000 each, totalling Rs 1,500,000 in fake currency notes from “Children Bank,” along with Rs 56,600 in legitimate Indian currency.
Additionally, the police seized five vehicles suspected to have been used in the execution of the crime, bearing registration numbers JK15-4533 (Alto-K10), JK18B-2652 (Baleno), JK18D-3543 (Alto-K10), JK01AU-5420 (I-20), and PB01A-9585 (Etios).
The identities of the apprehended individuals were disclosed as Riyaz Ahmad Mir, Ghulam Nabi Malik, Arshid Ahmad Wani, Mohd Zubair, Zahoor Ahmad Salro, Abaas Ahmad Sofi, Bilal Ahmad Sofi, Faroze Ahmad Thokar, Raja Rameez, Ishfaq Ahmad Wani, Zubair Ahmad Bijran, and Khurshid Ahmad Mir.
In response to the incident, Case FIR No. 08/2024 was registered at PS Kangan, and further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
