Srinagar, Mar 26: To enhance the career-oriented academic mentorship and equip faculty members with the skills to integrate career counselling into academic guidance, the Centre for Career Planning and Counselling (CCPC), University of Kashmir (KU), Wednesday organised a one-day teacher training workshop on ‘The Foundations of Career Guidance and Mentorship’.
The workshop aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations by equipping teachers with strategies to support students in making informed career choices and enhancing their employability skills. Well-known career guidance expert Thomas John, NCDA CCSP-certified Master Trainer and Head of Career Counselling at iDream Career, led the sessions, sharing knowledge from his extensive experience. The workshop included interactive discussions, role-playing activities, and resource-sharing to help faculty bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements.
Director CCPC KU, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Dar, in his remarks, stressed on the importance of career-focused mentorship. “Faculty play a crucial role in shaping students’ career trajectories and equipping them with effective guidance strategies will help bridge the gap between education and industry demands,” he said. Deputy Director CCPC KU and co-convener of the workshop, Dr. Yahya Bakhtiyar, highlighted the growing need for structured career counselling in educational institutions.
The event was coordinated by Fatimah Ali, faculty at CCPC KU, who highlighted the strong impact of faculty-led career guidance. The workshop trained 60 faculty members from various departments and satellite campuses. The event was moderated by Mr. Yasir Abbas and Dr. Sheeba Hassan, coordinators at CCPC KU.
