Srinagar, Mar 24: Minister for FCS &CA, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Information Technology, Science and Technology, ARI & Training Satish Sharma on Monday informed the Assembly that the government is exploring the possibility of making playfields in the Eidgah constituency accessible round the clock.
The statement came in response to a question raised by former Speaker and MLA Mubarak Gul, who sought details on the existing playfields in the constituency and the steps being taken to improve their accessibility.
Responding to the question, Sharma stated, “There are five playfields in the Eidgah constituency, developed by the Youth Services & Sports Department with an investment of Rs 31.20 lakh.” These include playfields at Palpora, BHS Chandihar, BHSS Nawakadal, BHS Bakshipora, and HS Badiwader Eidgah. Additionally, several schools in the constituency have their own playfields where annual sports activities are conducted.
He further emphasized that “apart from routine sports events conducted by the department, various recognized sports associations, NGOs, and clubs are actively organizing activities. These initiatives have helped place the region on the national sports map by regularly engaging local youth in various disciplines.”
Regarding the possibility of keeping the playfields operational 24×7, Sharma said floodlights would be required to facilitate nighttime sports activities. “We will explore the feasibility of installing floodlights, subject to resource availability,” he added.
