Srinagar, Jan 11: The encroachment, foul smell, and traffic jams at the new Habba Kadal bridge take a heavy toll on commuters and cause inconvenience to the general public.
As per the daily commuters through this place, the street vendors have set up their carts on both sides of the bridge and also put trash on the side of the bridge, which causes a massive foul smell at this spot that irks the commuters.
They said the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has completely neglected this place, and this place poses a serious threat to people who are visiting here.
Hadia, a local girl, told Rising Kashmir that it is unbearable to stay there for a minute. “Authorities should look into the matter to provide relief to the people.”
As per the locals, the SMC has left this place unattended, which has turned it into a hazard. If the situation remains the same, this place will become a hotspot for infecting the common people.
Every day, hundreds of students travel from this location, and they have no choice but to cover their faces to avoid the foul smell.
Not only does the bridge stink, but the encroachment on both sides of the bridge is also putting a strain on commuters. They are forced to travel on the bridge, which increases the risk of an accident.
This location is also extremely crowded during peak hours which causes great trouble to employees, businesspeople, and students.
“The two-minute journey is sometimes taking around 30 minutes as the full stretch remains jam-packed, especially in the morning and evening hours,” a group of commuters said.
The people of the locality have petitioned the SMC to take measures to make this place encroachment-free and make it neat and clean several times but there are no measures taken them.
An official from SMC told Rising Kashmir that he would look into the matter at the earliest.
