ECI announces 2nd Phase of J&K Assembly Elections

SRINAGAR, AUG 29: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a notification for the second phase of the General Elections to the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir, set to take place on September 25, 2024. This phase will see 26 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) across the districts of Ganderbal, Srinagar, Budgam, Reasi, Ra-jouri, and Poonch go to the polls.
In the Kashmir Division, 15 Assembly Constituencies will be con-tested, including 17-Kangan (ST), 18-Ganderbal, 19-Hazratbal, 20-Khanyar, 21-Habbakadal, 22-Lal Chowk, 23-Channapora, 24-Zadibal, 25-Eidgah, 26-Central Shalteng, 27-Budgam, 28-Beerwah, 29-Khansahib, 30-Chrar-I-Sharief, and 31-Chadoora.
In the Jammu Division, 11 Assembly Constituencies will be in the fray, namely 56-Gulabgarh (ST), 57-Reasi, 58-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, 83-Kalakote-Sunderbani, 84-Nowshera, 85-Rajouri (ST), 86-Budhal (ST), 87-Thannamandi (ST), 88-Surankote (ST), 89-Poonch Haveli, and 90-Mendhar (ST).
The last date for filing nominations is set for September 05, 2024, with scrutiny of the nomination papers scheduled for September 06, 2024. The last date for the withdrawal of candidature is September 09, 2024.
The polling will take place on September 25, 2024, from 07:00 AM to 06:00 PM.
Srinagar District, a key area in the second phase of elections, is gear-ing up for the polls with 7,74,462 registered voters. Notably, women voters outnumber men, with 3,87,778 female voters compared to 3,86,654 male voters. There are also 30 voters identified as belonging to the third gender.
The district encompasses 08 Assembly Constituencies: 19-Hazratbal, 20-Khanyar, 21-Habbakadal, 22-Lal Chowk, 23-Chanapora, 24-Zadibal, 25-Eidgah, and 26-Central Shalteng. To ensure smooth vot-ing, the ECI has established 932 polling stations, with 885 designated as urban and 47 as rural.
In line with its commitment to inclusive elections, the ECI has set up special polling stations, including 8-Pink polling stations, 8-Youth polling stations, 8-PWD (Persons with Disabilities) polling stations, 5-Unique polling stations, and 8-Green polling stations.
As with the rest of the constituencies, the last date for filing nomina-tions in Srinagar District is September 05, 2024. The date for scrutiny of nominations is September 06, 2024, and the last date for with-drawal is September 09, 2024. Votes will be counted, and results de-clared on October 04, 2024.
