Srinagar, Feb 25: Member Parliament, Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Saturday visited Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology Kashmir (SKUAST-K), Main Campus at Shalimar, here.
He took an overall appraisal of the Research and Extension related activities going on in the University.
Dr Farooq held a discussion with regard to the various emerging and re-emerging issues, climate resilient, seeds, rootstock and other plant material availability in the University.
The discussion was held as per the directions of Vice Chancellor SKAUST Kashmir Professor Nazir Ahmed Ganai who was at Jammu as he is presently holding the charge of Vice Chancellor SKAUST-Jammu as well.
The MP also took stock of the situation of the Kisan Mela being organized by the University on March 4 and 5 and expressed his satisfaction over the arrangements being done for the event.
Dr Farooq had a wide range of discussions with Director Extension, Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Abu Bakar Sidique and Deputy Registrar, Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat.
Besides, scientists of the Directorate of Extension, Division Fruit Science and Division of Pathology, Division of Agronomy were also present on the occasion.
The Division of Fruit Science presented some planting material related to various nut fruits like plum, peach and cherry besides some high-density apples.
He interacted with the students of the University and advised them to pursue their higher studies in the Field of Horticulture and show and unlock their potential towards the research of the various challenging emerging diseases confronted in the Horticulture.
The MP expressed the concern over the spurious pesticides, fertilizers available in the market and desired that only their need to be a blanket ban on such sperious drug and the quality drugs be made available to the farmers of this area.
Later, Director Extension, Prof. Makhdoomi narrated to the visiting dignitary the work being done by University in various fronts related to Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture and Agricultural Engineering, Animal Husbandry, Dairy, Sheep Husbandry, Forestry and Fisheries.
