Shopian, Feb 18: Democratic Progressive Azad Party on Saturday held a day-long convention at Shopian in which hundreds of workers participated.
Speaking on the occasion, provincial president DPAP and former legislator Mohammad Amin Bhat said that DPAP is emerging as one of the largest political party in J&K and hundreds of people on daily basis are joining it across the nooks and cranny of Union Territory.
He said that the power of the party was well reflected in its region wise protests against land eviction process by the government. “Wherever our party held the protests, hundreds of people joined us and forced Jammu Kashmir government to stop the eviction drive against poor people”.
He said no home of poor was touched under the drive only after the party chief Ghulam Nabi Azad met Union Home minister Amit Shah and urged him to spare the common and poor people. “After he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he was assured poor will be spared and the result is in front of you that not a single home of poor is touched,” he said.
Bhat said that the people of Shopian and its adjoining districts are thankful to Mr Azad for approving massive infrastructural projects for the region when he was the chief minister of erstwhile state. “Azad sahab built Mughal road, sanctioned Government Medical College Anantnag besides built a huge network of roads and other educational institutions in the region,” he said and assured once the party comes in power the same speed and vision shall be carried forward.
The former legislator said that Shopian was ignored by successive regimes till the government of Ghulam Nabi Azad came in power 2007.
He said it was only possible to declare Shopian as district when he became the chief minister. In the convention hundreds of workers had come from various and distant places of the district and took a pledge to carry on the pro people and pro-development agenda under the leadership of Ghulam Nabi Azad. Gulzar Wani, Zonal President was also present on the occasion.
