Jammu, May 1: Hailing from village Koil in Pulwama, ace Sqay Martial Art Player, Disha Pandith has kept the UT’s as well as the Country’s Flag high at the International scene by winning a Gold medal for India at the International Sqay Cup held in Podoslik, Mascow, Russia.
Competing against the top athletes from around the world, Disha showed extraordinary skill, stellar grit, tenacity, besides determination and sportsmanship to emerge victorious in her category.
Daughter of Praduman Krishan Pandith and Jyoti, 20-year old Integrated Zoology student, Disha’s stellar performance played a key role in India’s overall success at the event, helping the country secure overall second place in the medal tally as Disha claimed a Gold and a Silver in two different events. Nineteen countries across the World participated in International Sqay Cup 2025, organised by the Sqay Federation of Russia under the aegis of International Council of Sqay, wherein India secured second place in overall medal tally and Russia emerged champion, while Uzbekistan claimed the third place.
It is not for the first time that Disha has been in the spotlight as it was 6th International medal for this young girl including a Gold in the Sqay World Cup. Disha is leaving no stone unturned in bestowing training to the budding Sqay players with a mission to produce International stuff from Jammu and Kashmir and making women folk strong and brave through the art of self-defence.
“I want to produce International stuff from J&K by involving more and more young athletes in this sport through Strong Waves Martial Arts Academy that I run in Sheikhpora in Budgam. Apart from eradicating drug menace from the society, my goal is to teach young women athletes self-defence to save themselves from offenders and teasers,” Disha said.
Accrediting her success to her Coach, Grandmaster Nazir Ahmad Mir, Disha said it is her coach and the parents who help her to make balance between sports and the studies. Advising youth to involve themselves in sports and games, Disha said sports serves for delight, for ornament and for agility.
The entire nation, particularly the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, celebrates this historic achievement. Disha’s success story stands as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring athletes, especially young women from the region.
