Dir sericulture reviews district-wise progress of sericulture activities

Srinagar, Mar 18: Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director, Sericulture J&K, chaired a comprehensive review meeting today at the Directorate of Sericulture Development Department, Tulsi Bagh, Srinagar, to assess the district-wise progress of departmental activities in Kashmir Division. The meeting focused on evaluating the implementation of key initiatives aimed at strengthening the sericulture sector across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, a detailed review was conducted on various critical aspects of sericulture development. The progress of field plantation activities under departmental initiatives, Silk Samagra-2, and other schemes for the years 2023-24 and 2024-25 was analyzed. During the meeting special emphasis was laid on the survival rate of plantations.
The Director Sericulture J&K stressed on achieving the targets for the year 2025-26 marking the expansion and sustainability of the sector. Additionally, district-wise targets for P1 and F1 silkworm seed distribution for both the spring and autumn seasons of 2025-26 were deliberated upon. The meeting also assessed the expected cocoon crop production across different districts for the year 2025-26.
The production of silkworm seed (F1, P1) against the targets for 2024-25 and the proposed targets for 2025-26 were examined, ensuring adequate seed availability for the sericulture farmers. The Physical and Financial Status of the Capex budget for 2024-25 was also reviewed in the meeting. Threadbare discussions were also held for planned expenditures in order to enhance sericulture infrastructure.
Furthermore, the Physical and Financial Status of the Silk Samagra-2 scheme for 2023-24 and 2024-25 was reviewed with emphasis on achieving set targets and preparing comprehensive district-wise action plans for the year 2025-26.
Mr. Bhat, stressed the importance of timely execution of all sericulture-related activities and urged the concerned officers to work diligently towards achieving the set targets. He emphasized the need for close coordination between field functionaries and silkworm rearers to ensure effective implementation of government schemes. He also reiterated the department’s commitment to promote sericulture as a viable and sustainable economic activity for the farming community of J&K.
