Jammu, Feb 08: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesdaysaid thatterrorists involved in the Dhangri village attack are still hiding in the upper reaches of Rajouri district, with the active support of some of the localsand also announced a reward of Rs 15 lakh for anyone providing information about them.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), which are conducting a joint probe in the Dhangri attack, have established through an investigation and call intercepts that the terrorists were getting important information about security forces’ movement in the area. It was revealed that the terrorists were also given food and other requisite help for their survival in the upper reaches.
“Due to intense search operations and sealing of almost all the exit points, the perpetrators (terrorists) of Dhangri attack have not been able to move out of Rajouri and it has also been established during the joint investigation that the terrorists are still hiding somewhere in the forests or in the upper reaches of Rajouri,” SSP Rajouri, Mohd Aslam informed Rising Kashmir.
“Some locals are facilitating the terrorists for their survival besides passing on important information to themThe probe is on and very soon those helping the terrorists in one way or the other will be identified, ” the SSP said.
The Police has warned that strict action will be taken against the people sheltering the terrorists.
A reward of Rs 15 lakh has also been announced for anyone giving information about the terrorists, the SSP Mohd Aslam further informed.
Pertinent to mention, seven people were killed and 14 injured as terrorists attacked Dhangri village in Rajouri on January 1 and 2. While five people, including two brothers, were killed after the terrorists opened fire at some houses, two children died when an improvised explosive device (IED) left behind by the attackers went off the next day.
Police sources further informed that the terrorists who are hiding in Rajouri’s forests and upper reaches may carry out another terror attack.
“We warn that strict action will be taken against those who are helping the hiding terrorists,” sources said, adding, “the name and identity of the person providing any information about the terrorists will not be disclosed”.
