DEO launches ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ drive to promote Green Election initiative

Poonch, Sept 15: In a unique initiative, District Election Officer (DEO) Poonch Vikas Kundal on Sunday launched “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” tree plantation drive, linking it with the Green Sweep campaign and Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP).
The DEO planted a tree at Deena Nath Rafiq Memorial Higher Secondary School, marking the beginning of the campaign. The initiative aims to promote environmental responsibility and encourage citizens to vote. It is pertinent to mention here that Several polling stations in Haveli, Mendhar, and Surankote assembly constituencies have been designated as Green Polling Stations.
“The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative honors our mothers and contributes to a sustainable future,” said DEO Poonch. “We urge everyone to participate and make our polling stations eco-friendly.” The Green Polling Stations will feature eco-friendly voting material, efficient waste management, and tree plantation drives, accompanied by environmental awareness campaigns.
The district administration has pledged to make the upcoming elections an environmentally conscious event, inspiring other districts to follow suit. This initiative integrates environmental responsibility with democratic participation, fostering a culture of sustainability in Jammu and Kashmir.
By launching this initiative, Poonch district sets an example for eco-friendly elections, promoting a positive impact on the environment. The “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative encourages citizens to take responsibility for their environment and vote for a sustainable future. With this innovative approach, the district administration aims to make a lasting impact on the community.
The event was attended by Principal HSS Girls Anjuman Shaheen, DFO Poonch, and senior district administration officials.
