Srinagar, Sept 12: Appealing people to see through the divisive designs of BJP’s politics and vote unitedly to give absolute mandate to Congress-NC alliance in the ongoing assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Senior AICC Leader and CWC Member, Incharge of Congress president’s office, Nasir Hussain said that Congress will ensure restoration of statehood with constitutional safeguards for rights over land, jobs and natural resources.
Addressing media persons at PCC HQ Srinagar today, the Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka said that his home state too enjoys a special status under “Art 371-J and likewise there are several other states who enjoy special status under the constitution for certain safeguards.
Hitting out at the BJP for disbanding, dividing and downgrading the full-fledged State of J&K into UT, depriving people of their identity, dignity and status, . he cautioned the people against the communal and divisive agenda of BJP and its strategy to create dissension, defections and division of the votes of people and appealed for united vote to the NC-Congress Coalition for absolute majority to fight for the restoration of democratic rights to the people.
The Centre Govt gave false promises of restoration of statehood, but never fulfilled even after five years, otherwise elections should have been held under statehood, Hussain added.
He said just before elections, the Centre snatched more powers from the elected Govt and vested in LG, which indicated the BJP’s intentions.
The Congress and INDIA Alliance will fight for the Statehood and genuine rights of J&K, he asserted. He said that the recent attempt to unilaterally amend the Wakaf Law could not succeed due to the strength of the INDIA Alliance in the parliament, so opposition is strong now due to the mandate of the people, although we fell short of a few seats to form the Govt due to obvious reasons.
He said that BJP is scared of the strong NC Congress coalition, so they are trying to adopt different measures of division in Kashmir, but people understand their game plan.
He also lashed out at the BJP for trying to malign the image of LoP Rahul Gandhi for speaking regarding the prevailing strain on our democracy.
Nasir questioned when PM Narendra Modi started the tirade against all previous Govts and Prime Ministers, from the foreign soil and maligned the country then why the entire ecosystem of BJP-RSS remained silent. Modi visited different countries in 10 years and spoke against all previous Govt for self-praise, Nasir said.
