DC Srinagar reviews implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes under Agriculture, Horticulture, Floriculture, Sericulture Departments

Srinagar Sep 30: A meeting to review the implementation and progress achieved under various schemes in Agriculture and allied sectors was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad here on Saturday at the Conference Hall of the DC Office Complex.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Development commissioner, Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Chief Planning Officer, Mohammad Yaseen Lone, Chief Agriculture Officer, Chowdhary Mohammad Younis, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Dr Abaas, Chief Horticulture Officer, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, District Sericulture Officer, Assistant Director Fisheries, Poultry Development Officer, Floriculture Officer and other Officers of concerned Departments.
At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner took a detailed review of various Departments under Agriculture and allied sectors including Agriculture, Horticulture, Floriculture and Sericulture Departments.
On the occasion, the DC was given a detailed sector wise PowerPoint presentations by the concerned District/Sectoral Officers and highlighted the progress made and targets achieved so far by implementing different District and Centrally sponsored schemes.
While Reviewing, the implementation of schemes in Agriculture Department, the Chief Agriculture Officer, apprised the DC about physical and financial achievements, besides different schemes including, NMSA, SMAM, MIDH, NFSM PMKSY, PMKKKY, RKVY, PM FasalBima Yojana, KCC, PM-Kissan, Farm machinery, Distribution of quality seeds, Per Drop More Crop component of PMKSY and status of different schemes under execution, requirement/production of food grains, Vegetables, Oil Seeds & Pulses in the District.
On the occasion, the DC was also apprised about the proposed comprehensive Action plan for promotion of High Value / Exotic vegetables (Brocoli, Lettuce, Red Cabbage,Red& Yellow Capsicum, Parsley,Chinese Cabbage, Kale and Celery) to be established at Khonmoh and inside Dal Lake areas like Naidyar, Miskeen Bagh and Abi Nowpora of the  District.
The DC was further informed that over 60 hectares of land is under the cultivation of Brinjal in the District and at an average 30150 quintiles of Brinjal are produced by progressive Farmers in Srinagar particularly in Maloora and Qamarwari areas.
It was also given out that a progressive farmer namely Bashir Ahmed Bhat of Malura has earned a total of Rs 6.70 lakh out of 4 Kanal and 8 Marlas of land by harvesting 301 quintals Brinjal during Kharief 2022
The DC was informed that the gross cropped area under agriculture is 9660 hectares in Srinagar District and the average production of paddy is 70 quintals per hectare which is highest production/hectare in the country. It was also given out that 64 Mashroom units have been established in the district providing livelihood to as many as 64 families in Balham and Khonmoh under PMKKKY during current year.
Similarly, the Chief Horticulture Officer highlighted the achievements made and the progress of ongoing schemes being implemented in the district.
He informed that 3306 hectares of land is under horticulture related activities and income of Rs 110 crore is generated in the district. He also apprised the char about the action plan being implemented for production enhancement in Srinagar.
The Deputy Commissioner also took a detailed review of activities being implemented by the Floriculture Department. He was given a brief about the gardens, parks, nurseries and other developmental initiatives taken by the Department. He stressed on revenue generation from the parks and gardens for further upgradation of the infrastructure.
On the occasion, the DC asked the concerned Officers to take adequate measures for development and maintenance of all the gardens and parks in the district besides maintaining cleanliness.
During the meeting, the DC also reviewed the functioning of the Sericulture Department and asked the concerned Officers to work out the modalities for enhancing silk production in the district to meet the requirements of local trades including Silk carpet industry sector in the district.
Addressing the meeting, the DC asked the Officers to put in their dedicated efforts in accelerating the tempo of developmental activities pertaining to their Departments so that desired targets could be achieved in a time bound manner.
He also asked the Officers to create awareness among the youth about the different income generating schemes in the District.
