Ganderbal, March 21: Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore, Friday chaired a meeting to finalize arrangements for upcoming religious occasions including Nauroz, Shab-e-Qadr, Jumat-ul-Vida, Eid-ul-Fitr and Navratra.
The meeting was attended by senior officers from the district administration, police, health, PDD, Jal Shakti, FCS and CA and other concerned departments. During the meeting, the DC directed officials to ensure adequate availability of essential services, including power and water supply, sanitation, transport and traffic management, to facilitate smooth observance of these significant occasions. Special emphasis was placed on market regulation, ensuring the availability of essential commodities, and preventing overpricing and hoarding. The Health Department was instructed to keep emergency medical services on high alert, with special arrangements at major religious and congregation sites. The Traffic and Police departments were directed to implement effective traffic management plans, particularly around mosques and shrines. Additionally, the Municipal Council Ganderbal was asked to ensure cleanliness and sanitation in all public places. The DC emphasised interdepartmental coordination to address any emergent issues promptly. He also urged the public to cooperate with the administration and celebrate these occasions in a spirit of harmony and brotherhood.
DC Gbl reviews implementation of eco-sensitive zone for Thajwas wildlife sanctuary
Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore Friday chaired a meeting to discuss the implementation of the Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) notification for Thajwas Wildlife Sanctuary in line with the directives of the Supreme Court of India.
A statement issued here said that the meeting, held at the VC Room of the DC office, was attended by Chief Town Planner, Kashmir, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Assistant Commissioner Development, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Kangan, DFO Sind Division, DFO Wildlife and other officials.
Discussions cantered on the regulation of activities within the ESZ to protect the fragile ecosystem of the sanctuary.
“DFO Wildlife informed that activities such as mining, stone quarrying, crushing units, operation of band saw machines, establishment of pollution-causing industries, and construction of major hydroelectric projects are strictly prohibited within the Eco-Sensitive Zone,” the statement said. “The DC emphasised the need for sustainable eco-tourism, ensuring that tourism-related activities are conducted in an environmentally responsible manner without disturbing the area’s biodiversity and ecological balance.” The administration reaffirmed its commitment to implementing strict environmental safeguards while promoting sustainable development in the district.
