CUS holds Academic Council meet

Srinagar, Dec 17: The sixth meeting of the Academic Council of Cluster University Srinagar was held on Tuesday with several important proposals coming up for threadbare discussion and endorsed by members for further procedural clearances.
The meeting was chaired by Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Mohammad Mobin. Special invitees who attended the meeting included former Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Aligarh Muslim University, Prof. Nisar Ahmad Khan; former Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences Jamia Millia Islamia and former Pro Vice Chancellor, SGT University (Gurugram), Prof. Sharif Ahmad and Head Academics & Clinics, Composite Regional Centre, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Dr. Mir Zaffar Iqbal.
From Cluster University Jammu, special invitees who attended the meeting in virtual mode included Vice Chancellor, Prof. K.S. Chandrasekar; Dean Academic Affairs, Dr. Naveen Anand, Registrar and Deans of various faculties.
From Cluster University Srinagar, senior officials including Dean Academics Affairs, Prof. Yasmeen Ashai, Registrar, Prof. Syed Wilayat Hussain Rizvi, Controller of Examinations, Prof. Khurshid Ahmad Mir, Nodal Principal, Prof. Seema Naz, Deans of various faculties and Principals of constituent and affiliated colleges attended the meeting besides coordinators of IG programmes, senior faculty members from constituent colleges and other office bearers.
With respect to the introduction of the Ph.D programme in the constituent colleges of the university from the next academic session, the members approved the guidelines framed by the university while suggesting some changes to make it more compatible with the university’s unique mandate.
With respect to the introduction of the innovative Design your Degree (DYD) programme, the council was informed that the preparations for the same have been finalized with two constituent colleges- Amar Singh College and Institute of Advanced Studies in Education- taking the lead in identifying the mentors and constituting the Board of Studies for finalizing the curriculum.
Besides the Ph.D norms, the meeting also discussed the policy guidelines framed for internships, subject tours and intra/inter-university migration of students. The members endorsed the guidelines.
The meeting also discussed revival of some IG Programmes which were earlier discontinued and it was resolved that the concerned Deans and HODs will be consulted regarding the feasibility of the same considering infrastructural and man-power requirements.
The council members strongly endorsed the proposal for introduction of 2-Year B.P.ED Progamme in the constituent colleges considering the importance of physical education. The meeting also discussed the introduction of 1-Year PG Diploma Course in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE).
Earlier, Registrar, Prof. Syed Wilayat Rizvi briefed the members about the various items on agenda, including the matters meant for ratification and those proposed for consideration in the higher decision-making bodies. The meeting began by confirming the minutes of the meeting of the previous academic council after Controller of Examinations, Prof. Khurshid Ahmad Mir read out the profiles of the special invitees.
In their post-meeting remarks, the special invitees appreciated the way the academic council meeting was conducted with all inputs being heard out and taken on board for further consideration. They also commended Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mobin for ensuring a free and fair exchange of ideas for constructive outcome of the meeting.
Dean Humanities and Liberal Arts, Prof. Deeba Sarmad presented formal Vote of Thanks.
