Ganderbal, Oct 23: The Department of Economics, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), organized lectures on “Changing Landscape of Economic Behaviour in the New Global Order,” by Professor M.K. Agarwal from the University of Lucknow and “Nature of Market Power in a Digital Age” by Dr. Debdatta Saha, Associate Professor, faculty of Economics, South Asian University, New Delhi.
The lecture on “Changing Landscape of Economic Behaviour in the New Global Order,” started with a welcome address by Dr. Masroor Ahmad, Head of the Department, followed by the introduction of Prof. Agarwal by Mr. Aadil Amin, (Research Scholar).
In his lecture, Prof. Agarwal discussed key global economic trends, including the growth rates of the top five economies, developments in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, and China’s slower growth due to specific structural challenges. He also deliberated on the performance of advanced economies such as the USA, Euro-Area, and the UK, with a focus on the impact of tighter monetary policies aimed at controlling inflation.
Following the lecture, a question-and-answer session was held, where participants engaged with Prof. Agarwal on a range of topics, including the future outlook for emerging markets, the impact of global trade policies, and the implications of technological advancements on economic growth. The interactive session allowed students, faculty, and other attendees to gain deeper insights into the current economic landscape. Ms. Annam Mushtaq proposed the vote of thanks.
Meanwhile, another lecture, “Nature of Market Power in a Digital Age”, commenced with the welcome address by Dr. Jainendra Kumar Verma, Associate Prof. followed by the introduction of speaker by Ms. Farhana Wani, research scholar.
In her lecture, Dr. Saha discussed key global digital markets, including market power, buyers and sellers power, predatory and monopoly pricing. She explained cartelized pricing and contractual clauses.
