Ganderbal, Aug 12: The Department of Commerce, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) organised a special lecture on “Viksit Bharat @ 2047: Prospect and Challenges,” by Head Department of Economics, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Prof. S M Shafi, at Green Campus here on Monday.
Dean School of Social Sciences and Business Studies, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nikka, Head Deptt of Commerce, Dr. Mehraj ud Din Shah, Sr faculty member, Prof. Javed Ahmed Kamili, other faculty members, research scholars and students were present.
Describing India’s growth outlook very much positive, Prof. S M Shafi, in his presentation, said, the Government of India’s resolve for a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, involves a multi-pronged approach, focusing on sustainable economic growth and development, social welfare, educational reforms, infrastructure growth, and environmental sustainability. “This vision requires coordinated efforts between the government, private sector, and civil society to create a prosperous and inclusive future for all the people in the country,” Prof. Shafi said.
He further said the Government is also facing several challenges that need to be addressed to realize the vision of “Viksit Bharat,” which include Economic Disparities and Inequality, Employment Generation, Infrastructure Deficit and others. Prof. Shafi added that the young population of India represents a dynamic and powerful force that can significantly contribute to the vision of a “Viksit Bharat”.
Addressing the participants, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nikka emphasized that the path to a developed India is not solely the responsibility of the government or institutions, but requires active participation from every citizen. “People have to come out of their comfort zones and contribute towards the economic growth and overall development of the country.” He said, efficient and effective implementation of policies and programmes is often hindered by red tapism and corruption. “The schemes and policies framed by the Government of India for the upliftment of the marginalised sections of the society have to be executed and implemented in the letter and spirit in order to achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat,” Prof. Nikka said. He further advocated the increase in the spending on Research and Development and fostering a culture of innovation and incubation throughout the universities, colleges and research institutions.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Mehraj ud Din Shah, said, the Government of India has laid out an ambitious vision for “Viksit Bharat” which involves comprehensive planning and commitment across various dimensions of governance and policy. He said that by leveraging the potential of the youth through targeted investments in education, health, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement, India can harness this demographic advantage to drive its growth and development. “Viksit Bharat also requires building national character, imbibing the habit of Swachh Bharat, and a mind-set which respects India’s civilizational ethos.”
Dr. Asif Jeelani conducted the programme proceedings and Dr. Rizwana proposed the vote of thanks.
