Pulwama, May 06: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president, Tariq Hameed Karra on Tuesday reaffirmed the party’s full support to the government for any action against terrorism.
Speaking to the media in Srinagar, Karra said the Congress Working Committee had passed a resolution expressing solidarity with the government and supporting any steps taken against the perpetrators of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
“We stand word by word with the government as per the resolution,” he said.
Karra said the meeting between the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in light of the prevailing situation, reflects the Congress party’s united stand in support of national security.
“Rahul Gandhi met the Prime Minister to assure him that the Congress party backs any decision the government takes to counter terrorism,” he added.
Karra, who is the MLA from Shalteng Central constituency, further said that nobody wants war. “War is a terrifying word with long-lasting consequences. However, if the government deems it necessary to act against terrorism, the Congress party will stand firmly with the nation,” he said.
The J&K Congress chief also credited Rahul Gandhi for compelling the government to approve the caste census, calling it a proud moment for the party and its workers. “We are pleased that Rahul Gandhi’s consistent efforts have led to the cabinet’s approval of the caste census,” he added.
Karra further informed that the Congress party will soon organise a three-day workshop on the caste census, with the programme already shared with the party district presidents.
