Jammu, Dec 20: Senior BJP leader Devender Singh Rana on Wednesday said the Congress and its allies in Jammu and Kashmir are “frustrated on the face of an imminent debacle” in the 2024 general elections, asserting that the nation has decided hat-trick for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The impact of the decimation of the Congress in the national politics will be colossal on Jammu and Kashmir, their allies the regional parties losing their postal address for indulging in and promoting dubious, mischievous, self-centric and anti-people political discourse,” Rana said while addressing Karykartas during the Booth Jan Samvad Maha Abhiyaan in Jammu border.
He said the abrogation of Article 370 and its endorsement by the Supreme Court has proved to be the last nail in the coffin of the “deceitful politics of seven decades wherein generations were kept misinformed on the temporary nature of the constitutional provision”.
“For their vested interest, the regional political parties and the Congress created a perception that the discriminative and unjust provision was beyond repeal or amendment. Now that the course correction has been made, they stand exposed and to hide their embarrassment, they are coming up with hilarious arguments,” the BJP leader said, adding that the temporary provision incorporated in the Constitution at the instance of Jawaharlal Nehru had caused “irreparable injustice” to the various segments of Jammu and Kashmir people.
According to Rana, the repeal of Article 370 has brought substantial benefits to half the population of Jammu and Kashmir, including women gaining rights they were deprived of for over 70 years. He credited the political decisions of August 5, 2019, for ushering in a new era of peace and economic activity in the Valley, with a decline in shutdowns and stone-pelting incidents.
Rana emphasized the empowerment of the common man in Kashmir to earn a livelihood, children continuing their studies and sports activities, and increased business and tourism activities. He expressed confidence that decisions about progress and development would now be made locally, empowering the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The senior BJP leader concluded by stating that the people of Jammu and Kashmir feel a sense of confidence and security about their future, recognizing that they are the masters of their destiny. The decisions for progress and development will be made at local levels, not in the drawing rooms of self-centric political figures, he asserted.
