Cold weather conditions likely till Dec 7 : MeT

Srinagar, Nov 27: The Meteorological Department on Sunday revealed that cold weather conditions in Kashmir were likely to continue till December 07. Met officials said that  Srinagar and other parts of valley continued to witness subzero temperatures prevalent for past over a week.
Director MeT department, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that following the dip in temperatures, Kashmir was shivering while as the cold wave has intensified. “We are expecting a further drop in night temperatures as dry weather will continue till December 07,” he said.
Meanwhile,  dense fog continued to engulf many parts of Kashmir including the city as a consequence of which vehicles moved with headlights on during the morning and evening hours.
Several parts of Kashmir witnessed sub-zero temperatures on Sunday night resulting in  partial freezing of water bodies. Tapes  .
As per MeT data, summer capital Srinagar reported the coldest night of the season and recorded  a low of minus 2.1 degrees Celsius. Health resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir settled at minus 3.4 °C degrees and it was the coldest place in Valley.
Ski-resort of Gulmarg recorded 9.2 °C maximum temperature and minimum settled at minus 1.0°C . Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded maximum temperatures of 15.6 °C, while minimum temperatures settled at minus 1.6 °C
In UT Ladakh, Leh recorded a low of minus 7.8°C while Kargil recorded minus 11.3°C. However, Drass in Kargil, the second coldest place in the world, reported a low of minus 12°C.
As per the traffic advisory for Monday, there will be two-way traffic  on the Srinagar-Jammu highway, “Subject to fair weather better road condition, LMVs (Passenger) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic,” an official at Traffic department said.
Similarly on Mughal road, LMVs from both sides and HMVs (upto twelve tyres) from Srinagar towards Poonch shall be allowed on Mughal road. LMVs from Behramgalla 0800 hrs upto 1500 hrs.,  from Herpora 0800 hrs upto 1600 hrs & HMVs from Herpora 0900 hrs. upto 1500 hrs, the advisory said.
“On the Srinagar-Leh highway, the vehicular movement shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Kargil” the official said adding that it will be followed by HMVs. No vehicle will be allowed after cut-off timings, “it stated.
