Exuding hope that the Supreme Court will set a deadline for restoration of J&K statehood, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said that it’s ” unfortunate ” that the Apex Court is not ready to hear the matter before October 10.
Talking to reporters here, CM Omar, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, “It is unfortunate that the Supreme Court is not ready to hear this matter ( statehood restoration) before October 10. We hope that when it comes up, the Court will impose a time limit and we will get statehood back soon.”
CM Omar said that the government led by him wants the early hearing of the case.
“It has been more than 10 months of our government and from the first day we have been seeking statehood restoration,” he said.
The CM further said, “The first cabinet meeting of our government was also about statehood restoration and we passed the resolution as well.”
The Chief Minister said that the first meeting he had with the Prime Minister was also about the resolution of statehood restoration.
“We are hopeful that the Supreme Court will do the justice,” he said.
When asked about the protest of PDP against the youth languishing in jails, CM Omar said, “We are all worried about this matter. We can’t do anything to it in Srinagar. The decisions of security of Jammu and Kashmir are being taken in New Delhi by the Union Home Ministry. It will be better for them (PDP) to visit Delhi and meet the Home Minister and discuss the issue.”
The CM further informed that there was no dearth of schemes in J&K.
“As I mentioned in my speech that there is a lack of awareness among the people. We have to make people aware about the schemes for them and we have to teach them the procedure to apply for them. We also have to make them understand the benefits of the schemes,” Omar said.
He also said that there are many schemes that earlier were supposed to be applied for in the government offices but nowadays majority of the schemes can be applied online.
“There is a need to educate everyone about the schemes who will get benefit out of it,” he said—(KNO)
