Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday directed all concerned departments to remain on high alert as heavy rains lashed several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, causing waterlogging in many residential areas and pushing rivers and nallahs above the danger mark.

According to CM Abdullah, control rooms have been activated across the Union Territory, and the Chief Minister’s Office is in constant touch with field departments to monitor the situation closely.

The administration has prioritized drainage work in affected areas, alongside restoration of essential services such as drinking water supply and electricity, which have been disrupted in some localities.

Appealing to the public to remain cautious, Abdullah assured that necessary measures are being taken to ensure safety and minimize damage. “Our focus is on immediate relief and timely response,” he said.

Meanwhile, disaster management teams have been put on standby to deal with any emergencies that may arise if the water levels continue to rise.
