Ganderbal, July 29: Flash Floods triggered by a cloudburst that hit Prang area of Kangan on Saturday, caused damage to seven residential houses, Mosque and two Government schools besides damaging hundred Kanals of Agriculture and horticulture fields. The flood-like situation occurred due to heavy rains in the wee hours on Saturday in GujarPatiPreng area of Kangan in Ganderbal district.
An official told Rising Kashmir due to cloudburst followed by torrential rains, flash floods occured in a tributary with water entering the nearby residential houses , Mosque and Government schools at Panzindara.
However there was no loss of life or injuries reported, officials said.
According to the official preliminary damage report, water in its route replenished seven houses with mud, suffocated a hydel power canal, impaired one Masjid, a lift water project and two primary schools,they said.
In a proactive move, a team comprising SDM Kangan, TehsildarKangan under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Mehraj-ud-Din Shah including field staff of Revenue Department ,Jal Shakti, I&FC Ganderbal, R&B etc. along with machinery is on work for early restoration. Immediate measures were taken to divert the flow of water mitigating potential damage.
Meanwhile, the affected families were shifted to safer locations and Rs 10, 000 per family has been sanctioned from the Red Cross fund as an immediate relief. Besides, essential items including utensils and blankets were also given to the families.
In order to restore the canal, three JCBs have been on the job since the wee hours. The Revenue Department has been directed to prepare the final report regarding damage by evening today, the officials said.
