Budgam, Dec 31: The local residents of the Charangam village in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district have urged the government to provide potable water supply in the village.
Fayaz Ahmad Wani, one of the local residents from the Charangam village told Rising Kashmir that they are facing a water shortage problem in the village.
“We have jointly purchased the plastic pipe but as these plastic pipes freeze during minus temperature, the pipes are broken,” Fayaz said.
Wani said that there is a huge shortage of water supply in their village. “On a daily basis, the women are visiting far off locations to bring water to their houses, which has become the daily routine for the womenfolk in the village,” he said.
Abdul Salam Mir, another resident from Charangam village, said that due to the shortage of water supply people in the village are facing hardships.
“The government must install the pipeline in our village under the JJM scheme and should provide the portable water supply in the village so that people are relieved,” Mir said.
The locals also requested that the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Deputy Commissioner Budgam Akshay Labroo to look into the matter and take necessary steps regarding this issue.
The Assistant Executive Engineer for Jal Shakti PHE Subdivision Beerwah said, “I have already informed the concerned contractor to install the distribution water pipeline into the village.”
“Due to snowfall, the groundwork for the installation of the water pipeline has been affected. When the weather conditions improve, the contractor will install the distribution pipeline in the village,” he said.
