Srinagar, Feb 28: A day after ban on Jamaat-e-Islami was extended for further five years, the Centre on Wednesday banned the Muslim Conference Jammu & Kashmir (Sumji faction) and Muslim Conference Jammu & Kashmir (Bhat faction), declaring them as “unlawful associations” with immediate effect.
In a post on X, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the “activities of the two factions were against the sovereignty and integrity of the nation.”
“Striking terror networks with undiminished vehemence the government has declared the Muslim Conference Jammu & Kashmir (Sumji faction) and Muslim Conference Jammu & Kashmir (Bhat faction) as Unlawful Associations,” he said.
Shah further said that these outfits have been engaging in activities against the sovereignty and integrity of the nation. PM NarendraModi government is determined to uproot terrorism and anyone involved in unlawful activities will face dire consequences,” he said.
As per MHA notification, MCJK-B has linkages with banned terrorist organizations and has supported terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. The members of the MICK-B have been indulging in generating feelings of hatred and disaffection against India to separate Jammu and Kashmir from the Union of India.
“ Leader and members of the MCJK-B have been involved in raising funds through various sources including Pakistan and its proxy organizations for perpetrating unlawful activities, including supporting terrorist activities, sustained stone-pelting on Security Forces in Jammu and Kashmir,” it said adding that its members by their activities show sheer disrespect towards the constitutional authority and constitutional set up of the country.
The notification reads that MCJK-B was giving clarion calls to boycott elections on multiple occasions, and has also attempted to subvert the will of people and democratic process in Jammu and Kashmir.
“It involved in promoting, aiding and abetting the secession of Jammu and Kashmir from India by involving itself in anti-national and subversive activities, sowing seeds of dis-affection amongst people; exhorting people to destabilise law and order, encouraging the use of armed struggle to separate Jammu and Kashmir, and promoting hatred against established Government,” it said.
The MHA further said that Central Government is of the opinion that if there is no immediate curb or control of unlawful activities of the Muslim Conference Jammu and Kashmir (Bhat faction), it will use this opportunity to continue with the anti-national activities which are detrimental to the territorial integrity, security and sovereignty of the country.
“Continue advocating the secession of Jammu and Kashmir from the Union of India while disputing its accession to the Union of India; and propagating false narrative and anti-national sentiments among the people of Jammu and Kashmir with the intention to cause disaffection against India and disrupt public order. It is necessary to declare the Muslim Conference Jammu and Kashmir (Bhat faction) (MCJK-B) as an unlawful association with immediate effect,” it said.
The MHA further said the Central Government hereby declares the Muslim Conference Jammu and Kashmir (Bhat faction) (MCIK-B) as an unlawful association.
Similarly, the notification addresses the Muslim Conference Jammu and Kashmir (Sumji faction) (MCJK-S), chaired by GhulamNabiSumji. This faction is known for its anti-India and pro-Pakistan propaganda, with members actively involved in supporting terrorist activities and providing logistical support to terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
The leaders and members of MCJK-S have been implicated in raising funds through various sources, including Pakistan and its proxies, for unlawful activities such as supporting terrorism and engaging in stone-pelting on Security Forces. The group has consistently discouraged the people of Kashmir from participating in elections, undermining the fundamental principles of Indian democracy and displaying disrespect towards the constitutional authority.
“MCJK-S is accused of engaging in activities prejudicial to the integrity, sovereignty, and security of the country, including promoting, aiding, and abetting the secession of Jammu and Kashmir from India through anti-national and subversive actions.
The Central Government expresses concern that if the unlawful activities of MCJK-S are not immediately curbed, the faction may persist in activities detrimental to the country’s territorial integrity and security.”
The MHA said that therefore, exercising the powers conferred by the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, the Central Government declares MCJK-S as an unlawful association with immediate effect.
The notification is set to remain in effect for a period of five years from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, subject to any orders made under section 4 of the said Act.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs extended the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) Jammu and Kashmir for another five years with immediate effect declaring it as an ‘unlawful association’.
