Kargil, May 14: In a remarkable display of civic engagement, 108-year-old Haji Yousuf from Karkitcho, Ladakh, cast his vote through the Postal Ballot Team of the Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) Kargil. Haji Yousuf’s participation highlights the enduring spirit of democracy and serves as an inspiration to citizens of all ages.
Speaking on the significance of voting, Haji Yousuf emphasized its paramount importance in shaping the nation’s destiny. He urged fellow citizens to exercise their franchise conscientiously on May 20th, 2024, underscoring the responsibility entrusted to every voter to contribute to the democratic process.
ARO Postal Abdul Hadi presented traditional Khataks on behalf of the District Election Officer Kargil and congratulated Haji Yousuf on this milestone, praying for his long life.
In an interview with Media ARO Abdul Hadi revealed that a total of 220 votes had been cast out of 295 eligible voters as of yesterday. This notable turnout reflects the enthusiasm and commitment of the Kargil community towards participating in the electoral process, he added.
Hadi highlighted that the “Vote from Home” initiative, spearheaded by the Election Commission of India (ECI), continues to foster inclusivity and accessibility in elections, ensuring that no eligible voter is left behind. He also mentioned the dedicated efforts of various teams trekking for hours to facilitate voting in remote locations, underscoring the meticulous planning and commitment to upholding the integrity and transparency of the voting process.
