Chennai, Aug 23: Showing stellar grit and tenacity promising youngsters Qamran Iqbal and Musaif Ajaz notched up big half-centuries, while Abid Mushtaq scored power-packed 49 runs as Jammu and Kashmir gained a sizeable first innings lead over Baroda in the ongoing Bucchi Babu Invitation Cricket Tournament, being organised by Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) at T1 Murugappa, Chennai.As per a statement issued here, Baroda were 4/0 in one over at the draw of stumps on day-2 today, with openers Nitya Pandya (03) and Sukirt Pandey (01) at the crease. Earlier resuming from an overnight score of 48/1, Jammu and Kashmir rode on a big partnership of 158 runs between Qamran and Musaif to score a good total of 280 runs on a surface that seemed to assist bowlers, thus gaining a first lead of 104 runs. Once again curbing his explosive instinct, Qamran Iqbal faced 175 balls to score magnificent 81 runs, smashing 8 delectable boundaries and one massive sixes, while Musaif faced 102 balls in his brilliant knock of 80 runs, studded with 5 crispy boundaries and 3 big sixes. Both the batters were solid, sublime and flamboyant during their splendid knocks. Abid Mushtaq later played a superb knock of 49 runs off 60 balls with 3 fours and equal number of sixes. Yawar Hassan (27) and Vanshaj Sharma (10) gave impetus to the total. For Baroda, Aryan Chavda was the most successful bowler, who took 5 wickets by conceding 94 runs in his 29 overs, while Pradop Yadav bagged 2 wickets. In a congratulatory message Member Administration JKCA Brig Anil Gupta lauded the efforts of the batters, while Member Cricket Operations and Development JKCA, Mithun Manhas termed the performance as satisfactory.
