But must we allow history to dictate our future? Must we sacrifice the hard-won peace and stability of post-August 5, 2019, Kashmir at the altar of dynastic power struggles?
The answer, unequivocally, is no. We must break free from the cycle of violence and oppression perpetuated by dynastic politics. The recent strides towards peace and prosperity in Kashmir cannot be jeopardized for the sake of political expediency. The region has suffered enough at the hands of self-serving political elites, who have prioritized their own interests over the well-being of the people.
It’s time to reject the siren song of dynastic politics and embrace a future where the voices of the people are heard and respected. A future where the aspirations of all Kashmiris, regardless of their political beliefs or affiliations, can flourish. A future where the region’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty can be leveraged to build a prosperous and peaceful society.
The recent surge in tourism, with over 2.5 crore visitors flocking to the region, is a testament to the potential that Kashmir holds. The economic boom that has followed, with hoteliers and small businesses thriving, is a welcome respite from the darkness of the past. But this progress must not be taken for granted. We must continue to work towards a future where such prosperity is not limited to a select few, but is inclusive and equitable for all.
As we navigate the complex political landscape of Kashmir, it’s essential to remember that the region’s problems are not solely the result of external factors, but also of internal dynamics. The stranglehold of dynastic politics has stifled the growth of new leaders and ideas, perpetuating a culture of nepotism and corruption.
