Srinagar, Feb 21: A section of the newly constructed pathway on Boulevard Road, near Ghat number 17, caved on Thursday, washing away tiles and soil.
The incident raised concerns among residents about the stability of the area. Fortunately, no injuries or loss of life were reported, but locals have expressed worry over the safety of the infrastructure. “This area had already developed cracks a week ago, and the spot was barricaded. But the collapse today is worrying,” said a resident, highlighting the growing unease over possible land sinkage.
The residents have called on the government to address the issue immediately and take necessary measures to ensure the stability of the area. “We don’t want further damage or accidents. The authorities should investigate and fix the problem as soon as possible,” another local added.
National Conference (NC) MLA Tanvir Sadiq also expressed concern over the incident, saying that it needed to be looked into urgently. “This is an unfortunate situation. The restoration work will begin today and the authorities are committed to addressing it,” Sadiq told reporters. The incident is a reminder of a similar collapse in the Dalgate area near Dal Lake in February 2021. Local authorities have assured that the necessary restoration work will start immediately, and other areas with potential risks will be carefully inspected.
