Jammu, Oct 25: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will celebrate Accession Day – October 26 – in a festive manner by organising several programmes across all twenty districts.
J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina told Rising Kashmir that various events are planned at the district level to commemorate the day like a festival. “In addition to district-level activities, programmes will also be organised at the tehsil and mandal levels,” he said.
The main function will take place at the BJP’s head office in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, at 11 am on Saturday, which will feature senior party leaders and newly elected MLAs.
Highlighting the importance of Accession Day, Raina said, “The BJP has declared a holiday to honour Maharaja Hari Singh for making J&K an integral part of India. A holiday has also been announced for the Maharaja’s birthday.”
BJP spokesperson Arun Gupta said Jammu and Kashmir became an integral part of India after Maharaja Hari Singh signed the Instrument of Accession on October 26, 1947. “We are grateful to Hari Singh for this historic decision,” he said, paying tribute to the Dogra ruler.
The Maharaja’s action, taken under the Indian Independence Act of 1947, established the region’s connection to India, Gupta said, adding that the citizens of J&K should be eternally grateful to Maharaja Hari Singh for making them part of the nation.
“We should be eternally grateful to the Maharaja as his step made us all the citizens of India and we are proud of it,” he added.
