Jammu, May 19: JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla on Friday accused the BJP government of putting the Union Territory’s interests and development “subservient to the pleasure of its vested interests”.
He said the “lack of cohesion and vision” has made the people of Jammu and Kashmir suffer on the development front. “Despite being in power at the Centre and in Jammu and Kashmir, the party has failed miserably when it comes to governance and let Jammu and Kashmir down on all fronts,” he said, adding that the BJP has nothing to showcase as its achievement.
According to a party statement, a mass contact programme was organized on Friday in Jammu West Constituency organised by Rajesh Sharma, Vice President DCC Jammu (Urban). The programme was presided over by Raman Bhalla in the presence of former Minister J&K Yogesh Sawhney, In Charge District President Jammu (Urban). The discussions during the meeting were centred around upcoming local body elections and local challenges.
Bhalla while referring to the issues confronting the people of Jammu and Kashmir, said, “In the absence of an elected government, the Lieutenant Governor-led administration has failed to give a push to the schemes and projects aimed at overall development and welfare of various areas and different segments of the society. We will keep pursuing and highlighting every issue, major or minor, to see Jammu and Kashmir progress and prosper, notwithstanding the odds.”
The Congress leader said that the support, cooperation and feedback of people will be useful for the party to get their grievances addressed timely and properly.
He reminded the BJP of the massive 2014 Jammu mandate for development and welfare and said that instead of doing a little bit in this regard they pushed the entire region to the wall.
Moving on to local issues, Bhalla said the people in Jammu are eagerly waiting for elections to be held, and have “made up their mind to vote out the BJP government”. “Upcoming local body elections will be a testament to that,” he said. “New challenges arise every day under the BJP regime and no section is left untouched whether it be students, youth, women, the elderly, or the farmers.”
Commenting on the recent row on the CUET exam, he said that students of J&K are extremely distressed that they have been allotted centres outside Jammu and Kashmir. The former minister said that it will be a major disadvantage to those who may be financially struggling. He asked the concerned agency to take necessary corrective measures by increasing the centres within UT.
