Jammu, Aug 30: Ajay Sadhotra, a senior leader of National Conference (NC) and contesting candidate of the INDIA alliance from the Jammu North Assembly segment, on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for its “failure” to provide basic amenities to the people of Jammu North.
Kick-starting his poll campaign here, the former minister criticised the BJP-led government’s ten-year tenure in the country. “The residents of Jammu North have been left stranded due to persistent shortages of drinking water and irregular power supply. Despite the installation of smart meters, the government has miserably failed to ensure a regular power supply. To make matters worse, people are being burdened with inflated electricity bills,” he said.
Sadhotra questioned the BJP leadership, asking them to explain why the general public is “still deprived” of basic amenities such as regular water and electricity supply, the non-availability of government ration. “The BJP must clarify why their governance has left the people of Jammu North struggling for basic necessities,” he said.
The NC leader said the INDIA alliance is the “solution to the problems” plaguing Jammu North, promising that, if voted to power, the alliance would prioritise resolving the issues faced by the public. “Our focus will be on the basic amenities—consistent water supply, electricity, and other fundamental needs that have been neglected for too long,” he stated.
The former minister said the smart city project has “completely failed” in Jammu city. He said no new developmental projects were started and the public exchequer is wasted on “unproductive projects”.
Speaking on the occasion, Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President of NC, said, “The BJP has completely failed to address the real concerns of the people. The National Conference’s commitment to improving the quality of life for residents by offering concrete solutions, including 200 units of free electricity, one lakh government jobs to youth of J&K, Rs 5,000 per month to female heads of households of EWS, 12 cylinders free of cost per year to EWS, increase free rice/atta allocation from 5 kg to 10 kg per person per month and a regular supply of drinking water free of cost.”
He pledged that the INDI alliance would establish a “corruption-free administration” to ensure transparency and accountability in governance.
Gupta appealed to the people to vote and support Ajay Sadhotra, the INDIA alliance candidate, to “bring about the much-needed change” in Jammu North. “It is time to vote for progress and better governance,” he said.
