Jammu, Dec 07: On the request of the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) BJP unit, the party’s national leadership has extended the ongoing membership drive by one more week. Initially scheduled to conclude on Sunday, the drive will now run until December 16.
The extension was discussed in a meeting between BJP National President, JP Nadda, National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh, J&K BJP President Sat Sharma, General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul, and Incharge of the membership drive Aseem Gupta.
“We requested the high command for an extension to ensure we enroll as many people as possible in the party. The BJP leadership has kindly agreed to extend the membership drive by one week, until December 16,” Gupta told Rising Kashmir.
He said the BJP’s target for the membership drive is to enroll 75% of the people who voted for the party in the previous elections. So far, the party has successfully enrolled over 6 lakh people in J&K through its ongoing online and offline campaigns.
With this extension, the total number of members in the region is expected to grow significantly. According to Gupta, the BJP currently has just over 20 lakh active members in J&K, and this number is set to increase as the extended deadline approaches. The party is receiving an encouraging response across various sections of society, including youth, women, deprived communities, OBCs and first-time voters, he said.
To maximise outreach, the BJP’s membership drive has been targeting every polling booth in the Union Territory. Both online and offline registration methods are being utilised to ensure wide participation.
Once the drive concludes, J&K BJP President Sat Sharma, General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul, and Aseem Gupta will head to New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, JP Nadda, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to submit a detailed report on the membership campaign in J&K.
