Batamaloo – Qamarwari roadside footpath stretches to come up with cycling tracks: SSC officials

Srinagar, 02 Nov: In a major revamp exercise to give a new facelift to roadside footpaths on a road stretch from Batamaloo to Qamarwari Chowk, officials at Srinagar Smart City (SSC) on Wednesday said that they are upgrading the footpaths on both sides of the road with Cycle tracks, MultiUtility Zone- (MUZ), and tactile tiling.
 
Official concerned with the project told Rising Kashmir that they have started the work on the 2.1 KM footpath stretch from Batamaloo to Qamarwari Chowk by upgrading it with Cycle tracks, Multi Utility Zone (MUZ) and tactile tile surfacing.
 
“Under the Srinagar Smart City Project we have taken up a major revamp of footpaths on both sides of roads stretch from Batamaloo to Qamarwari Chowk which has a distance of 2.1 KMs and under the revamp the footpath will be given a new facelift with the introduction of cycling zone, Multi Utility Zones (MUZ) for underground cabling purpose and tactile tiling on the remaining footpath surface”, the official said.
 
The official added that along the 2.1 KM footpath stretch there will be the installation of two lighting systems in which one pole will be installed with two lights of which one will be facing the footpath and another one towards the main carriage road. The revamped footpaths will also come up with surface drains for rainwater.
 
Notably, the Smart City Mission was launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Srinagar Smart City project was approved in the Round 3 challenge held in April 2017 with a Special Purpose under Smart City Mission envisions transforming Srinagar into an eco-friendly, resilient and socio-economically vibrant city that celebrates its natural and cultural heritage creating harmony and opportunities for all.
