Jammu, Nov 01: Blaming the BJP government for “making J&K poor in all sectors,” the JKPCC working-president Raman Bhalla Tuesday said that if voted to power in J&K, his party would bring back the “golden era J&K witnessed during earlier Congress regimes.”
“The tenure of Congress government was a golden era in J&K’s history. Congress had managed to hold back inflation during its entire term,” Bhalla said, while interacting with Block Presidents of the Party, a statement from the party said.
Bhalla asked the party’s young workers to work hard for strengthening the organization in the Union Territory, promising a special role for them in the next Assembly polls.
He stressed to mobilize public opinion to strengthen the party at the grassroots level as also to highlight the BJP government’s wrong policies, especially in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The Congress will make the role of the youngsters more vibrant in order to nurture them for future challenges,” Bhalla said.
He alleged that over the last eight years, in the name of “achhe din” (good days), the BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) has misled the people of the country.
“Farmers are suffering instead of getting double income, the unemployment rate is growing like never before, the backbone of the common people is broken due to inflation and a skyrocketing rise in the prices of essential commodities,” the Congress leader said.
Bhalla accused BJP of playing with the sentiments of those who voted it to power.
“People are not happy with its policies and the government has proved to be a failure. We have taken to the streets against the governance deficit, the lack of development and the failure of the government to deliver on the promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Bhalla said.
He urged the members of the public to join the party in its fight against the BJP-led Centre’s “anti-people policies, misrule and mis-management.”
He said the Congress will vigorously fight against the “wrong policies” of the government to ensure justice and relief to the common people.
“To bring the people of J&K out of this uncertainty the Congress party wants to build a trust with the people so as to create a sense of hope and certainty for them. Congress party since 136 years has faced these uncertain times and have always emerged successful for the welfare of the country,” he said.
The Congress will provide fixed jobs for contractual workers and ensure timely promotions if it comes to power in J&K, Bhalla said.
Bhalla said that J&K suffered immensely due to misadventures of the Centre. Post-abrogation of the statehood people here were suffering due to rising unemployment, inflation and discrimination.
He mentioned that during Congress government, jobs were provided to a large number of youth, RTI Act was enacted to eradicate corruption and several other revolutionary steps were taken to push J&K on the path of development.
He reiterated the party’s stand with respect to restoration of statehood with full powers to address the aspirations of people. Bhalla said that people have suffered a lot during the last three years especially after bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that Congress is fighting and will continue its fight till restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Bhalla said that the people have now understood what the Congress party and what its motives are. “In today’s times, there are a lot of political parties in Jammu and Kashmir which are striving for power but at last it is only the common people who decide and choose their representatives,” he said.
Bhalla also conveyed standing instructions from the AICC President to keep in constant touch with the people at the grass root level and take note of their problems for appropriate solution and timely disposal. Bhalla urged the people of J&K to back his party in the forthcoming assembly election so that a new system of justice and equality could be launched for overall development and economic growth of J&K.
Bhalla also stressed that his party’s agenda is not to attain power only in the elections but to protect the dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and ensure justice to all sections of the society. He said that only Congress can become the voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir who have faced uncertainty since 2014. “There is political uncertainty in Jammu and Kashmir and this has been created by the BJP led Centre government otherwise J&K was heading from the worst situation to a better normal situation,” he said.
