Udhampur, March 22: To Mark the World Water Day, the Department of Zoology, Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur under the aegis of IQAC organised an awareness programme on the topic “Sustainable Management of Fresh Water Resources” Saturday. The event saw participation of students of second semester along with faculty members.
The programme was organised under the able guidance of Principal (Dr.) Nalini Pathania. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sanjeet Kaur, HOD Zoology highlighted the importance of the theme in day-to-day life and the role of students as a reformer in different spheres of life through sustainable practices and lifestyle changes for the betterment of the fresh water resources.
Dr. Neha Antal, Assistant professor in Zoology, emphasised on the need for the water conservation and management through community participation and innovative strategies. This was followed
by Pledge taking by the students as well as faculty members on the judicious and sustainable use of fresh water. Students displayed and expressed their views on the theme- “Sustainable management of fresh water resources” in the form of posters and slogans. Later the students observed the Devika river water which was polluted with biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste thus degrading its water quality. Dr Anita, Assistant Professor in Zoology focused attention and created awareness among the students on the importance of fresh water and need to preserve the available resource. Subsequently a cleanliness drive was conducted under the supervision of Munaza Mehraj, Lecturer in zoology, in which the students participated enthusiastically. Overall, the goal of the visit was well received by the students as it raised awareness about the global water crisis and different actions needed for its conservation and sustainable use.
