Avalanche Hits Vehicles at Shaitan Nallah

Drass, Apr 25: An avalanche struck the Shaitan Nallah stretch near Zoji La Pass on the Srinagar-Leh highway on Saturday, causing major disruption along the highway and pushing at least two tanker vehicles off the road and down a steep slope, officials said.

 

Several vehicles suffered partial damage in the incident, while some drivers reportedly sustained minor injuries and were shifted to Sub-District Hospital Drass for treatment. While no fatalities have been reported so far.

 

Soon after receiving information, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Drass Vishal Atri, along with the Station House Officer (SHO) Drass and their teams, rushed to the scene to oversee rescue and relief measures. Emergency teams have been deployed to clear snow debris and secure the affected stretch of the road.

 

Officials from ICPP Minamarg, led by Incharge Fayaz Ahmad, are also present on the spot, assisting in rescue and road restoration efforts despite difficult weather conditions.

 

Authorities said that two vehicles have already been cleared, while seven to eight more vehicles further along the route were also impacted by the avalanche and are currently being attended to.

 

The situation is stated to be under control, with the administration prioritizing the safe rescue of the trapped driver and the early restoration of traffic movement on this crucial highway stretch.
