Ganderbal, March 5: An avalanche hit the Sarbal area of Sonamarg in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Wednesday. Fortunately, no casualties or property damage was reported.
The avalanche struck the high-altitude region but did not pose an immediate threat to residents or infrastructure. However, authorities have urged people to exercise caution as avalanche risks remain high in the area.
The Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Disaster Management Authority (JK-UT-DMA) has issued a warning, stating that a medium-danger level avalanche is likely to occur above 2800 meters in Ganderbal within the next 24 hours. Residents and travellers have been advised to take necessary precautions and avoid venturing into avalanche-prone areas. In case of an emergency, the public is urged to contact helpline number 112.
