Budgam, Sept 07: An independent candidate who had filed his nomination for the upcoming assembly elections in the Budgam constituency has withdrawn from the race.
Farooq Ahmad Mir, a resident of Lakhripora Budgam, had submitted his nomination as an independent candidate, which was accepted on Friday. However, he has now opted to withdraw his candidacy.
In total, 14 candidates filed their nominations for the Budgam constituency. Of these, 12 nominations were accepted, and two were rejected. With Mir’s withdrawal, 11 candidates will now contest in the upcoming elections for the Budgam constituency.
Across the five assembly constituencies in the Budgam district, 73 nomination papers were submitted. Of these, 56 were accepted, 17 were rejected, and one has been withdrawn from the Budgam constituency.
