Pulwama, July 31: Amidst cheers and community spirit, the much-awaited High Fives Pulwama Premier League was officially inaugurated by Colonel Deven Sood, Commanding Officer of the 55 Rashtriya Rifles. The opening ceremony witnessed the participation of captains from all 64 competing teams, along with an enthusiastic crowd of youth, children, and senior citizens from across the district. As per a statement issued here, the event began with the National Anthem, followed by the trophy unveiling and the inaugural match between All Rounders Ratnipora and Friends XI Pulwama.Speaking at the inauguration, Col Deven Sood said: “The primary aim of organising such events is to nurture and promote local talent from every corner of Pulwama district, and to provide them with the platform they rightfully deserve.”A young player from Ratnipora shares his appreciation by stating that, “We sincerely thank 55 RR for organising such a high-quality village-level tournament in Pulwama. It offers a golden opportunity for the hidden talent in our villages, who often lack avenues to showcase their skills.”Local resident Shahid Wani, a supporter of the event, expressed gratitude: “We thank the Indian Army for ensuring top-notch facilities for the players and for creating an atmosphere of professionalism and encouragement. It’s truly inspiring.” Youth activist Musaddiq highlighted the deeper impact of such initiatives stating that, “These tournaments don’t just promote sports and talent—they also help bridge the gap between the Army and the local community. Time and again, the Army brings meaningful opportunities for the youth, but this tournament, focused on grassroots talent, has been especially appreciated. We are genuinely thankful to CO 55 RR and Major Amit Sabharwal for making it so player-centric and well-facilitated.” With 64 teams set to compete, the High Fives Pulwama Premier League is shaping up to be not just a sporting tournament, but a celebration of unity, opportunity, and youth empowerment in the heart of South Kashmir.
