Srinagar, July 31: The District Anantnag Squash Championship, Kashmir Sports Council, came to a successful end at the Squash Complex, Multi-Purpose Sports Centre. The championship witnessed enthusiastic participation from various schools in the district, showcasing the potential of sports in fostering discipline, camaraderie, and a healthy lifestyle among the youth.
Former national hockey player and sports promoter, Abdul Rashid Ahanger, graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest, while Mir Aaqib and Liyakat Hussain were guests of honor. Ahanger, hailing from Anantnag district and renowned for nurturing the careers of numerous young athletes, emphasized the invaluable role of sports in keeping the youth away from social evils like drug abuse.
Addressing the gathering, Ahanger congratulated all the participants, especially the medal winners, for their remarkable performance in the championship. He highlighted how sports not only help in physical fitness but also instill essential values such as discipline and teamwork. Additionally, he urged the organizers to arrange a Summer Coaching Camp at the Squash Complex to further enhance the participants’ skills in the sport.
The championship, sponsored by Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, featured competitions in Under-15, Under-17, and Under-19 boys and girls categories. The young athletes exhibited exceptional talent and sportsmanship throughout the event, creating an electrifying atmosphere at the sports center.
In a display of appreciation and encouragement, the chief guest and other dignitaries presented medals and trophies to the deserving winners and runners-up. The closing ceremony witnessed a jubilant celebration of the spirit of sports and its potential to bring positive changes in the lives of young individuals.
The successful conclusion of the District Anantnag Squash Championship is expected to inspire more youth to embrace sports, leading them towards a brighter and healthier future. With such initiatives, the region continues to pave the way for nurturing talented athletes and fostering a culture of sports excellence.
